The World Food Forum (WFF) Startup Innovation Awards 2026, powered by MassChallenge Switzerland, is a premier global initiative celebrating youth-led startups transforming agrifood systems through technology. The program seeks to identify and support innovative entrepreneurs whose solutions tackle food insecurity, climate challenges, and empower local communities while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through its strategic partnership with MassChallenge Switzerland, selected startups will gain access to the MassChallenge Switzerland Accelerator in Lausanne, unlocking mentorship, networks, and growth opportunities on a global scale. Applications for the 2026 edition are open until 1 April 2026.
2026 Award Categories
The WFF Startup Innovation Awards recognize startups that offer actionable, scalable, and inclusive solutions for complex agrifood challenges. In 2026, awards will be distributed across four categories:
1. Digital Innovation in Food Processing
This award targets startups developing cutting-edge digital tools and technologies to enhance the efficiency, sustainability, and resilience of food processing systems. Winning solutions can optimize food preservation, packaging, and processing using smart equipment, connected platforms, and data-driven insights, ensuring every step of the value chain is more productive and sustainable.
2. Fighting Malnutrition and Enhancing Food Security
Startups addressing malnutrition and food insecurity through scalable, inclusive solutions will be celebrated. Initiatives may include improving access to nutritious food, enhancing nutrition education, strengthening local agrifood systems, or applying sustainable innovations across the agrifood value chain.
3. Enhancing Climate Resilience and Water Security
This category focuses on startups combating climate change and water scarcity. Winners will showcase technologies or practices that strengthen the resilience of agrifood systems, support sustainable water management, and promote long-term sustainability for communities dependent on agriculture.
4. Empowering Women in Agrifood Systems
Startups developing inclusive innovations that enhance women’s participation and leadership in agrifood systems are recognized here. Solutions could improve access to finance, markets, entrepreneurship training, or leverage digital tools to foster female-led agrifood initiatives.
