People First AI Fund for Non-profits 2025 Up to $50M

OpenAI has opened applications for its People First AI Fund 2025, a $50 million initiative designed to empower U.S. nonprofits that are shaping how artificial intelligence benefits communities. This fund supports organizations working at the intersection of technology, innovation, and public good, with grants aimed at expanding AI literacy, fostering community-led innovation, and creating fair economic opportunities.

About the Fund

Launched in July 2025, the People-First AI Fund reflects OpenAI’s mission to ensure that AI benefits everyone. The program was shaped by input from over 100 organizations and 500 individuals nationwide, including educators, community leaders, and partner groups such as the American Federation of Teachers and Older Adults Technology Services at AARP.

Focus Areas

The Fund will support projects in three key areas:

  • AI Literacy & Public Understanding – Programs that help people develop the knowledge and skills to navigate the AI era, including training local leaders such as educators, youth mentors, and artists.
  • Community Innovation – Initiatives co-designed with communities to use AI for improving health, mental well-being, education, and civic life, especially for underserved groups.
  • Economic Opportunity – Projects that use AI to expand access to meaningful work, support small businesses and caregivers, and prepare youth for future jobs while ensuring benefits are shared fairly.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a U.S.-based nonprofit with valid 501(c)(3) status.
  • Located and primarily operating within the 50 U.S. states or Washington D.C.
  • Annual operating budget greater than $500,000 but under $10 million.
  • Applicants do not need prior experience using AI.
