Accountability Lab East and Southern Africa (ALESA) has launched two transformative programs, the Digital Governance Incubator (DGI) and the Climate Justice Incubator (CJI), to empower young civic innovators driving transparency, accountability, and sustainability in Africa.
Both incubators will kick off in January 2026, continuing ALESA’s mission to nurture young leaders who shape fair and accountable societies through technology and climate action.
Digital Governance Incubator – 2026 Cohort
The Digital Governance Incubator (DGI) invites applications from young changemakers in Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. Open to individuals aged 18–35, this program supports innovators using digital tools to strengthen governance, citizen participation, and transparency.
Over 12 months, participants known as “Accountapreneurs” will receive mentorship, training, and resources to bring their digital civic ideas to life.
Key Focus Areas:
- Government Openness and Transparency: Tech-driven solutions promoting accountability.
- Access to Information and Citizen Engagement: Tools that enhance public participation.
- Government Efficiency: Innovations improving service delivery and institutional effectiveness.
- Digital Inclusion and Accessibility: Bridging the digital divide and empowering marginalized groups.

Climate Justice Incubator – 2026 Cohort
The Climate Justice Incubator (CJI) focuses on empowering young African leaders aged 18–30 from Malawi, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe to tackle climate challenges through justice-centered innovation.
Participants referred to as “Climatepreneurs” will engage in a 12-month journey to design and implement impactful projects that promote fairness, voice, and resilience in their communities.
Thematic Areas:
- Climate Justice Innovation: Technology and policy solutions for climate equity.
- Community-Led Resilience: Localized and participatory approaches to climate adaptation.
- Storytelling and Advocacy: Using art and media for climate accountability.
- Systemic Policy Change: Promoting transparency in climate governance and finance.
- Intersectional Climate Action: Linking climate justice with gender, economy, and culture.
Participants will gain mentorship, training, and networking opportunities, culminating in tangible community-driven impact projects.
