Internship Objectives
The UNFCCC Internship 2026 aims to support the implementation of ACE activities throughout the year. Interns will contribute to programs that strengthen climate education and engagement while supporting youth-focused initiatives connected to global climate processes.
Interns are expected to work full-time and collaborate closely with experienced UN professionals, gaining insight into international policy implementation and strategic communications.
Key Responsibilities
Selected interns will assist with a wide range of activities, including:
- Supporting the planning and delivery of ACE and youth-related events, such as workshops, webinars, and international meetings
- Preparing agendas, run-of-shows, presentations, technical notes, and guidance documents
- Coordinating calls and meetings with moderators, speakers, and partners
- Conducting background research on climate education, youth participation, and ACE-related topics
- Contributing to the development of learning materials and training modules for 2026 activities
- Assisting with the maintenance of the ACE website, LinkedIn group, and monthly newsletter
- Supporting outreach efforts, including drafting flyers, articles, and social media content
- Participating in internal team meetings and external stakeholder discussions
- Assisting with youth-focused initiatives linked to the Presidency Youth Climate Champions
- Providing general support to the Action for Climate Empowerment Unit as required
Eligibility and Minimum Requirements
To be eligible for the UNFCCC Internship 2026, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be enrolled in the final year of an undergraduate program or in a graduate program (Master’s or PhD) at a recognized university
- Maintain enrollment throughout the internship period
- Demonstrate fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Possess strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Have an academic background in social sciences, environmental sciences, education, or related fields (preferred)
- Experience with training programs, international events, youth initiatives, or education projects is an advantage
- Prior exposure to UN agencies, intergovernmental organizations, or youth organizations is an asset
- Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, are required
Internship Duration and Work Schedule
- Duration: Minimum of 4 months and maximum of 6 months
- Period: January to December 2026 (exact dates depend on availability and program needs)
- Workload: Full-time (40 hours per week)
- Location: Remote or in-person in Bonn, Germany
The internship may be extended up to six months, subject to continued university enrollment and satisfactory performance.
Technical and Computer Requirements
For remote participation, interns must have:
- A laptop or desktop computer (Windows 10+ or latest macOS)
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- Updated antivirus software and modern web browsers
- Enabled system updates
The UNFCCC will provide an Office 365 license for official communication and document management. Interns must also have a mobile phone for multi-factor authentication (MFA).
Internship Conditions
- The UNFCCC internship is unpaid
- Interns are responsible for all personal expenses, including travel, accommodation, and living costs
- Interns are not UN staff members
- Interns may work remotely or from the UNFCCC office in Bonn
