OPay Launches ₦1.2 Billion Scholarship Program at Olabisi Onabanjo University to Support Students for 10 Years

In a bold move to promote education and support youth development, OPay, one of Nigeria’s leading fintech companies, has officially partnered with Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) as part of its ongoing N1.2 billion scholarship initiative. This partnership marks a significant milestone as OOU becomes the ninth university to benefit from the initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on Nigerian students.

Through this landmark scholarship scheme, 20 deserving students from the university will receive ₦300,000 annually for the next 10 years. This funding will cover tuition and other educational expenses, giving students the freedom to pursue academic excellence without financial worries.

A Commitment to Education and Youth Empowerment

At the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held at OOU’s Senate Building, OPay’s Chief Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Justin Zhang, emphasized the role of education in national development. “This is the ninth institution we are partnering with this year. Our goal is to empower Nigerian students to focus on learning and unlock their full potential,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were OOU’s top officials including Vice Chancellor Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Dipo Olubomehin, Registrar Dr. Bayo Orukotan, and Bursar Mr. Femi Sowunmi. They were joined by members of OPay’s leadership, including CSR Manager Mr. Itoro Udo, Marketing Manager Mrs. Rhenua Adebo, and Student Union President Mr. Olatunji Muiz.

Expressing his appreciation, Prof. Agboola said, “Many of our students face financial difficulties that hinder their education. With this scholarship from OPay, more students will now be able to continue their academic journey without interruption.”

The partnership with OOU is part of OPay’s wider goal to invest in education across Nigeria. As the company continues to roll out its N1.2bn scholarship fund, more institutions and students are expected to benefit from this transformative project.

This initiative reflects OPay’s broader mission, to build an inclusive financial and social system that empowers the next generation of Nigerian leaders through access to education.
