The Nigeria Energy Forum (NEF) has officially opened applications for the 10th Africa Energy Innovation Challenge (AEIC) 2025, an initiative designed to empower young African entrepreneurs in the energy sector. The challenge offers grants of up to USD 10,000 to early-stage innovators developing creative and scalable solutions for energy access, job creation, agribusiness, and clean mobility across the continent.
About the Challenge
The Africa Energy Innovation Challenge is a flagship program of NEF aimed at accelerating Africa’s energy transition and promoting youth employment through sustainable innovation. The 2025 edition focuses on transforming local energy systems by supporting practical solutions that leverage local resources and enhance productivity in agriculture, manufacturing, and transport.
Under the theme “Transforming Energy Transition, Youth Employment & Local Manufacturing,” participants will showcase prototypes and concepts that contribute to cleaner, smarter, and more inclusive energy systems.

Innovation Tracks
Participants can submit proposals in any of the following four innovation categories:
- Powering Youth Employment & Job Creation
- Energizing Agribusiness & Social Development
- Greening Local Manufacturing & Value Addition
- CNG for Transport & Electrified Mobility
Eligibility Criteria
The challenge is open to:
- African youth aged 18–35 years.
- Teams of at least three members, including at least one man and one woman (gender balance required).
- Students, startups, institutions, and cross-country collaborations.
Each submission must include a one-page prototype concept outlining the project title, innovation track, abstract, problem statement, design method, and estimated costs.

- Youth employment impact – contribution to creating quality jobs or entrepreneurial opportunities.

The final event will be held at NEF25 in Lagos, Nigeria, where participants will present their innovations to a distinguished panel of judges and energy leaders.
