About the Visiting Research Fellows Program

Each year, the Kroc Institute welcomes exceptional scholars whose work contributes to peace studies and aligns with its ongoing research initiatives. Fellows engage in collaborative research, participate in academic activities, and contribute to impactful projects designed to influence both policy and practice.

For the 2026–2027 cycle, research proposals are encouraged in the following core areas:

1. Gender, Race, Class & Peacebuilding

This theme explores intersectionality through feminist, participatory, interdisciplinary, and qualitative approaches. Key topics include identity, representation, power structures, and forms of structural violence.

2. International Mediation

Researchers may focus on mediation strategies, preventive diplomacy, and national dialogues aimed at de-escalating or resolving high-intensity conflicts.

3. Peace Accords Matrix (PAM)

This area examines the design and implementation of peace agreements, civil society participation, transitional justice, and peace processes around the world.

4. Sustainability, Climate Change & Peace

Projects may explore environmental peacebuilding, the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities, deforestation, food security, illegal mining, and sustainable livelihoods. Priority is given to applicants applying for a full academic year.

Preference is given to proposals with clear policy relevance or practical impact.
