After college, Gottlieb moved into professional basketball. He played in the USBL and also spent time playing overseas in France, Russia, and Israel. In addition to his international experience, he participated in the NBA Summer League, which further showcased his playmaking skills.
Gottlieb transitioned into broadcasting in 2002, starting with a radio show in Oklahoma City. His strong personality and deep basketball knowledge helped him gain opportunities at major networks. His coaching journey began earlier at Golden West College, where he contributed as a redshirt player and assistant. Years later, he coached Team USA to a gold medal at the 2017 Maccabiah Games. On May 14, 2024, he was appointed head coach of the Green Bay Phoenix men’s basketball team. His early coaching years at Green Bay have been intense and sometimes controversial, including a viral moment in which he threw a chair out of frustration during a tough loss. His first season ended with a 4–28 record, but the beginning of his second season has shown visible improvement from the team.
