Chulalongkorn University Calls for Applications for 2025 Thai Studies Research Grants

Bangkok, Thailand, The Institute of Thai Studies at Chulalongkorn University has officially opened the call for applications for the 2025 International Thai Studies Research Grants, a program designed to promote academic excellence and global engagement in Thai Studies.

The initiative, organized under the Empowering Network for International Thai Studies (ENITS) project, will provide financial support to scholars producing original research in the field. The application deadline is set for 31 August 2025.

15 Scholars to Receive THB 40,000 Each

As part of the effort to advance international research collaboration, 15 grants worth 40,000 Thai Baht (THB) will be awarded to selected applicants. The grants aim to assist scholars in completing academic papers between 8,000 and 10,000 words focused on Thai-related studies.

In addition, supplementary travel support will be available for international applicants to attend an in-person presentation at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok:

  • 30,000 THB for scholars traveling from Europe, the Americas, or Africa
  • 10,000 THB for applicants traveling from Asia or Oceania.

Applicants are expected to submit papers based on one of the following areas:

  • Tai–Thai Studies (as a regional focus or specific field of study)
  • Buddhist Studies, particularly Theravada and Thai Buddhism
  • Trends or critical theory in Tai–Thai regions or comparative ASEAN studies
  • Thai and ASEAN food culture and studies

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to:

  • Academics
  • Independent researchers
  • Advanced graduate students with a proven interest in Thai Studies

Selected grantees must also be prepared to deliver an oral presentation of their research at the Grant Award Ceremony on 24 November 2025, held at Chulalongkorn University.

How to Apply

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed application form
  • A copy of a valid passport
  • A full, unpublished research paper (8,000–10,000 words) in English

The university also retains the right to publish or disseminate the approved research submissions.
