The prestigious Chevening Scholarships programme, backed by the UK Government, has announced that applications for the 2026/2027 academic year will officially open on August 5, 2025, and close on October 7, 2025.
This was confirmed via Chevening’s official X handle (@CheveningFCDO) on Thursday, July 10, 2025. The fully funded scholarship offers outstanding individuals from Chevening-eligible countries, including Nigeria, the opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any leading university in the United Kingdom.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the 2026/2027 Chevening Scholarships, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
- Hold a bachelor’s degree that qualifies them for postgraduate study in the UK
- Have at least two years (2,800 hours) of work experience
- Apply to three eligible UK university courses
- Demonstrate leadership and influencing skills
- Be committed to returning to their home country for a minimum of two years after the scholarship
