In a bold step to attract top global talent and expand its tourism and innovation sectors, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will introduce four new visa categories starting August 10, 2025. The new visa types are designed to support professionals in Artificial Intelligence (AI), attendees of major events, individuals involved in commercial gaming, and cruise tourists.
This move aligns with the UAE’s ongoing strategy to become a global hub for business, technology, and tourism, complementing previous initiatives such as the Golden Visa, Green Visa, and multiple-entry tourist permits.
1. AI Professionals Visa
Aimed at attracting AI researchers, developers, and tech consultants, this multiple entry visa allows foreign AI experts to stay in the UAE for 60 or 90 days, with potential extensions up to 180 days. The goal is to engage these professionals in short-term innovation and national tech projects that contribute to the UAE’s digital advancement.
2. UAE Event Visa
The Event Visa is tailored for individuals visiting the UAE for organized events, ranging from economic summits and academic forums to cultural festivals and sports competitions. This single-entry visa is valid for 30 or 60 days, with options to extend for up to 180 days, making it ideal for participants and delegates attending global gatherings hosted in the country.
3. Visa for Commercial Gaming Activities
In a groundbreaking shift, the UAE will issue a visa specifically for the commercial gaming sector. Open to game developers, operators, and investors, this 30-day single-entry visa is renewable once. While more details are awaited on qualifying activities, the visa signals the country’s interest in exploring the economic potential of the gaming industry.

4. Cruise and Leisure Boat Tourist Visa
The UAE is also expanding its hospitality offerings for maritime tourists by launching a multiple-entry visa designed for individuals arriving via cruise ships and private leisure boats. This visa is valid for 30 days with an extension option for another 30 days, aimed at encouraging longer stays and exploration of coastal destinations within the UAE.
Freelance Visa Applications Temporarily Suspended
While the country opens new visa pathways, freelance visa applications have been temporarily suspended. This affects remote workers and independent professionals seeking to relocate. However, current freelance visa holders can still renew their permits.
The freeze raises concerns among digital nomads and freelancers who had considered the UAE as a top destination for flexible work and tax-friendly living.
