What the Grant Covers
Nonprofit literacy organizations can apply for funding to cover:
- General operating expenses such as staff salaries, teacher stipends, and space rental.
- Supplies, technology, and equipment needed for literacy programs.
- New adult literacy projects or the development of innovative programming.
Book distribution and lending library activities are not eligible for funding under this grant.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Literacy Opportunity Fund, organizations must:
- Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an Employer Identification Number (EIN).
- Provide direct literacy services to adult students within the United States.
- Not have received a Literacy Opportunity Fund grant in the past 12 months.
- Submit a complete and detailed application.
Non-501(c)(3) groups may apply through a related nonprofit that holds 501(c)(3) status by clearly explaining the partnership in the application.
Application Rounds & Deadlines
Applications are accepted four times a year. If a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, it moves to the next business day.
