NGO Raises ₦6M to Support Widows and Educate Their Children

In a powerful show of compassion and youth-led activism, Capital for Her, a Nigerian non-governmental organization, has disbursed over ₦6 million in grants to support disadvantaged widows and ensure continued education for their children.

Launched in March 2025, the initiative began with 11 widows and has since expanded to 20 beneficiaries across Lagos, Ibadan, and Abeokuta, offering financial aid, mentorship, and tools for economic independence.

At the center of this impactful mission is 16-year-old Emmanuel Folorunsho, the founder and convener of Capital for Her. In a symbolic gesture of sacrifice and empathy, Emmanuel gave up his midnight snack allowance to kick-start the movement.

“This project is not only about money, it’s about restoring hope and helping women rebuild their lives through sustainable business,” Emmanuel shared.

His vision has grown into a grassroots initiative that’s already transforming lives and reshaping narratives around widowhood in Nigeria.

Executive Director and Matron, Mrs. Veronica Folorunsho, emphasized that the program’s goal is more than temporary relief; it is about lasting empowerment.

“The loss of a husband is not just emotional, it’s often a loss of financial security and identity. Through this, we are rewriting that narrative,” she said.

She further explained that the grants are helping widows launch or grow small-scale businesses, enabling them to regain economic stability and become self-reliant entrepreneurs.

“This is not just charity, it’s an investment. We want these women to reclaim their confidence, grow businesses, and uplift their families,” she added.

The widows involved have already started seeing significant changes in their lives, from improved financial stability to better access to education for their children. Many are now running successful ventures that support their households.

As Capital for Her continues to expand its reach, the organization stands as a shining example of how youth-led initiatives can spark real social change, particularly in underserved communities.
