Bright showed a strong love for music from childhood, joining his community’s cultural group at just 7 years old and later becoming its leader. Bright completed his early education at Umuhu Central School in Umuahia, although the Nigerian Civil War made things very hard. He later attended Ohuhu Community Secondary School in Amaogwugwu, Umuahia, where he led the school band and worked with many popular Eastern Nigerian music groups. In 1976, he made his first TV appearance on an NTA show while still in school.

Bright’s music career officially started in his teens, performing in his local church choir and cultural group. After moving to Lagos in 1979, he joined the Nigerian Customs and Excise Dance Band. In 1984, he launched his own music group called Zigima, which mixed traditional Igbo sounds with African rhythms and social messages.
That same year, he released his first album, Respect Africa, which brought him into the spotlight. He followed it with albums like Life of Yesterday and released eight studio albums overall. Bright Chimezie also performed internationally in places like London, Austria, Brazil, and Venezuela (OPEC Cultural Festival). He once performed for Nelson Mandela during his visit to Nigeria in 1990.
He is also an actor and has appeared in Nigerian movies such as Deadly Proposal and Abuja Boys.
