One of Pandey’s most talked-about moments came in 2011 when she promised to strip if India’s cricket team won the World Cup. Although the team won, she did not follow through due to public disapproval. She married her boyfriend of three years, Sam Ahmed Bombay, on September 1, 2020, in a private ceremony due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, some days later, she filed a domestic abuse complaint against him, leading to his arrest. The case took a controversial turn when Poonam was accused of misusing IPC Section 498A, and Sam was released.

Shortly after, Poonam was arrested for filming an adult video on government property. On January 18, 2022, she received protection from arrest from the Supreme Court of India after being linked to a major porn film racket involving several Bollywood celebrities. In February 2024, her manager posted on social media claiming Poonam had died from cervical cancer.
