The Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Ros Moger and Terry Furlong (RMTF) Memorial Fund, is inviting applications for its 2026 postgraduate scholarships in South Africa. This prestigious scholarship honours the legacy of Ros and Terry, two inspirational London educationalists, whose friends and family have raised funds since 2001 to support outstanding students committed to social justice in Southern Africa.
About the Scholarship
The Canon Collins RMTF Scholarships aim to empower exceptional individuals who see postgraduate education as a vital tool in creating a fair and open society. In 2026, funding will be awarded only to students pursuing studies in one of the following three fields:
- Justice – Including Climate Justice, Law, Economics, and Politics
- Education – Focused on education policy and practice
- Humanities – Covering Literature, History, Anthropology, and the Arts
Interdisciplinary and doctoral studies are welcome if they align closely with these categories. Applications outside these areas, such as MBAs, medical sciences, sports sciences, or applied sciences, will not be considered.
Scholarship Benefits
- Duration: Up to 2 years for Master’s and up to 3 years for PhD
- Funding Amount: Between R20,000 and R100,000, depending on individual circumstances
- Study Options: Supports full-time, part-time, and distance learning
- Additional Opportunities: Annual scholars’ conference and networking events
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a national or have refugee status in one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Zambia
- Be a resident in one of the above countries
- Hold or be completing a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent)
- Be studying or applying to study at a South African university
Note: If you are from Namibia, South Africa, or Zimbabwe, you should apply for the Canon Collins Sol Plaatje Scholarship instead.

Important: Applications must be submitted well before the deadline to avoid portal congestion. Late submissions will not be considered.
